Kuretake utilized the expertise and techniques developed over 120 years of ink making to develop these Gansai colors which have six particularly deep sumi-like color tones.

Soot, which is one of the ingredients for SUMI ink, enables users to express all the uniqueness of Japanese SUMI characteristics such as granulation, glossy finishes and beautiful dark shades to your art. The combination of soot and pigment creates both deep and light side of color. It helps you to make a beautiful gradient. This set includes 6 greyish colours with hints of darkness. You can express unique shades of SUMI by adding more water to produce granulation or less water to produce a glossy and rich finish.

To create pale, transparent colors or granulation, add lots of water. Colors will be brighter with slightly dark tones.

To create dark, dusky and opaque colors, add less water. The unique gloss of SUMI will appear.
